Hunting for the Axion with a Huge Magnet

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved the construction of the central magnet system for the “BabyIAXO” project by the “Color meets Flavor” Cluster of Excellence at the Universities of Bonn, Siegen, and Dortmund. A total of 6 million euros will be invested in the project. The goal is to search for the axion—a previously undiscovered elementary particle that could solve one of the greatest mysteries of particle physics.
